Description

This contract provides for the replacement of existing lighting installations within the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) Energy Centre, Canteen, Rock Laboratory and selected University of Southampton teaching rooms with a Thorlux SmartScan LED lighting system. The works comprise the removal and environmentally compliant disposal of existing luminaires, installation of new LED lighting and associated emergency lighting, electrical alterations, testing, commissioning and integration of intelligent lighting controls. The project forms part of NOC's ongoing estate-wide lighting modernisation programme and will deliver enhanced energy efficiency, reduced maintenance liabilities, improved lighting performance and support the organisation's carbon reduction and sustainability objectives. MJG is currently delivering the wider NOC site-wide Thorlux SmartScan lighting upgrade programme. Following the allocation of additional project funding, the award of these further works to the incumbent contractor represents the most commercially advantageous solution, ensuring continuity of delivery, technical consistency and seamless integration with the existing programme. Appointment of an alternative contractor would result in additional procurement, mobilisation and project management costs, together with an increased risk of programme delays and operational disruption. Awarding the contract to MJG therefore secures efficiencies in delivery, avoids duplication of overheads and provides optimum value for money whilst maintaining business continuity across operational and teaching environments.
