Für 48 LRT und 86 FFH-Anhang II und IV-Arten erfüllt Rheinland-Pfalz (RLP) die Vorgaben des Bundes für das FFH-Monitoring. Seit 2020 werden in RLP die vom Bund vorgegebenen SPF für einige Schutzgüter im Land erhöht, um Aussagen auf Landesebene über o. g. Schutzgüter treffen zu können. Mit Hilfe eines speziell für RLP entwickelten Prioritätenkonzeptes wurden die Schutzgüter in RLP bewertet. Ist ein Schutzgut im Sinne des Konzeptes in Rheinland-Pfalz als prioritär eingestuft, wird die Stichprobenzahl analog zu den Bundesvorgaben bis auf 63 erhöht. Bei weniger Vorkommen als 63 wird das Schutzgut in einem Totalzensus (d. h. alle Vorkommen fallen in das FFH-Monitoring) erhoben. Das FFH-Monitoring der Wildkatze weicht hiervon ab: Bundesweit werden keine Stichprobenflächen, sondern zusammenhängende Untersuchungsgebiete verwendet. Die im Rahmen dieser Leistungsbeschreibung zu untersuchende Fläche ist der Nördliche Pfälzerwald.
